Fun Sports Day

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

This year our school had a Fun Sports Day. Everyone was included in the races, for example the three legged race and tunnel ball. Even though there was no trophy to be won, everyone participated and worked as a team to bring spirit to the event. We encouraged the girls to win their races for the various houses and sang house songs. Everyone had fun and it turned out to be a great memory to take with us, as we progress through our school career.

Rhythm Workshop

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Oakhurst girls recently enjoyed a Rhythm workshop as part of the Summer School programme. Everyone was given a stick and a tube. The tubes were different sizes so they produced different sounds. One of the women from the workshop stood on the stage and we had to copy what she did with the tube and stick. If she hit it twice we would have to copy her. On the table behind her were all the different tubes. When she picked a tube that a row of girls had we would have to play on our tubes, if she put down our tubes we would stop. We made lots of beautiful sounds. Her brother and her niece were playing on different instruments in the background. It was an amazing experience, everyone enjoyed it!

Grade 7 Farewell 2011

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

The Grade 7 Class of 2011 were the first to have a farewell with all the teachers together on that memorable night. The evening started off with our stupendous principal, Mrs Van Velden, giving us an inspiring speech. Next our remarkable teacher, Ms Deane, gave a speech. This speech was different from others because to each girl Ms Deane pointed out all their best virtues and qualities and how everyone had grown and changed. Later we had a scavenger hunt and had great fun finding all the clues. It was our last function together as a class at Oakhurst and we enjoyed and treasured every moment of it. We will always be thankful for everything that all the teachers have done for us. Thank you for being there for us.

Foundation Phase gala

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

The Grade one to three Oakhurst girls loved swimming in their Foundation Phase gala. Many girls managed to swim a full length of the pool. Some Grade ones swam a whole length of Butterfly. The girls’ swimming skills have improved enormously during the year thanks to the guidance of the swimming teachers.

Oakhurst Carols

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Recently the Oakhurst girls celebrated the Christmas spirit by enjoying a family carols evening. Each grade performed a festive song accompanied by a few teachers playing the trumpet, saxophone and the piano. The carols evening was not only a night of enjoyment for everyone, but also a night of giving. We handed over presents that the girls had collected for underprivileged children through the Tree of Joy Foundation.
