4 Bikes 4 Singapore

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Shan Taylor, an ex Oakhurst pupil, visited our school recently. She came to tell the girls about her trip called 4 Bikes 4 Singapore. Shan has always dreamt of riding a motorbike and that dream has been turned into an adventure. Shan, her brother, father and a friend are about to travel from Cape Town to Singapore on their motorbikes while raising funds for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Infection Ward. There will be an extra passenger, a doll called Lolo, the Red Cross mascot, riding along with them. The Oakhurst girls and their Afritwin school in Manchester will follow their adventures via their website at www.4bikes4singapore.wordpress.com There has been a lot of preparation towards this four month trip and we hope it pays off and they succeed. We wish them the best of luck and safe travels.

Oakhurst did very well in this competition and seven girls had their pictures chosen for the calendar. It was very enjoyable and each and every girl was happy to participate.

Grade 4 Market Day 2011

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Recently the Oakhurst Grade 4s held their Market Day. They were in groups of two to four girls. They had a month to make their products and got four hours in class to make some extra products. They had to fill in a business plan and a checklist. On the morning of the Market Day excitement was buzzing in the Grade 4 classroom. Each group set up a table and decorated their stall. At half past eight the grade 1s and 2s started looking around. The older classes came a bit later.

Although tired and cold after the long morning, the grade 4s had a wonderful time. They were so excited to count their money! They counted their money, gave 10% to a charity which helps people to get jobs, and divided their remaining money equally between their groups. What fun the Grade 4s had!

Spring Hats on Spring Day

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

To celebrate the first day of Spring on 1 September, all the Oakhurst girls wore fancy, colourful hats to school. All the girls gladly showed off their beautiful hats to the rest of the school in the hall. It was all loads of fun for everyone; even the teachers wore their lovely Spring hats. The few girls who didn’t wear hats, they still had spring smiles on their faces. We had lots of fun that day!

Bok Day at Oakhurst

Monday, September 5th, 2011

As we all walked into assembly on Friday the 2nd of September there was excitement all around! All of us put a lot of effort into our outfits for Springbok Supporters’ Day and we all looked fabulous in our green and gold. Oakhurst celebrated this day to show how much we support the Springboks, and we all want to wish them the best of luck for the World Cup. We all hope that they play like stars and bring home the gold!
