Grade 7 farewell 2011

The Grade 7 Class of 2011 were the first to have a farewell with all the teachers together on that memorable night. It was our last function together as a class at Oakhurst and we enjoyed and treasured every moment of it. We will always be thankful for everything that all the teachers have done for us.
Foundation Phase gala 2011

The Grade one to three Oakhurst girls loved swimming in their Foundation Phase gala. Many girls managed to swim a full length of the pool. Some Grade ones swam a whole length of Butterfly.
Fun sports day

This year our school had a Fun Sports Day. Everyone was included in the races, for example the three legged race and tunnel ball. Even though there was no trophy to be won, everyone participated and worked as a team to bring spirit to the event. We encouraged the girls to win their races for the various houses and sang house songs. Everyone had fun and it turned out to be a great memory to take with us, as we progress through our school career.
Grade 4 Market Day 2011

On the morning of the Market Day excitement was buzzing in the Grade 4 classroom. Each group set up a table and decorated their stall. Although tired and cold after the long morning, the grade 4s had a wonderful time. They counted their money, gave 10% to a charity which helps people to get jobs, and divided their remaining money equally between their groups.
Spring hats and springbok supporters

To celebrate the first day of Spring on 1 September, all the Oakhurst girls wore fancy, colourful hats to school. It was loads of fun for everyone, even the teachers wore their lovely Spring hats. The following day was Bok Supporters’ Day and we put a lot of effort into our outfits. We all looked fabulous in our green and gold. Oakhurst celebrated this day to show how much we support the Springboks, and we all want to wish them the best of luck for the World Cup. We all hope that they play like stars and bring home the gold!
Oak Room Opening

KFM Visit

KFM came to our school on Wednesday 20th April. One of the Oakhurst parents, Mrs Lambe, sent an email to KFM a couple of days ago telling them about all of the projects we do for the less fortunate and how Oakhurst is helping to Lead SA.
Grade 7 tour of the Garden Route

The grade 7 class went on a week long tour to the Garden Route. In Oudshoorn we went to the Cango Caves, Cango Ostrich Farm and Cango Wildlife Ranch. We also visited the Knysna Elephant Park, Monkeyland, and enjoyed a trail in the Featherbed Nature Reserve.. We went canoeing. We slept at the African Skies Hotel in the Wildeness. Grade 7 visit to the farm school in Hoekville

During our time in the garden route we visited Oakhurst’s twin school in Hoekwil. We had made games in Afrikaans and now it was time to put our games to the test. It was all smiles as we played the games but soon it was time to interview the students. Each of us battled to speak to the children in Afrikaans. After that was over the class seemed to swarm onto the football field and, there, we played a huge game of soccer! Soon it was time to say a sad good-bye and off we went. Written by Grace Nadin
Grade 6 Wortelgat camp 2010

The Grade 6 camp was such fun with kayaking, rock climbing, a lagoon, standing on your friends shoulders to reach a whistle and a night walk testing your self-confidence. The dorms were little rooms with thatched roofs and a plastic cover at the top so you could see the stars. We had to tip our kayaks and try to get back on. We did an activity that tested our self-confidence called the ‘The Life Line’. We had to walk through a forest by ourselves with only a white rope that guided us. It was very nerve racking! I enjoyed it when we named a leader ‘Goldfish’ and called her that the rest of the camp. Before camp we visited Abagold abalone farm. It was very interesting! We learnt lots on camp but the message I brought back was ‘Trust your teammates and friends!’ By Michaela Meyer Gr6
Senior Inter House Gala 2011

The senior inter house gala took place on 15 February 2011. Athlone was the winning house, and Buxton won the spirit cup.

On 2 August, the Gr1 & Gr2s went on an outing to the Honeybee Foundation. The girls had great fun learning about bees through various hands on activities. Follow up activities will continue in class in Literacy, Numeracy & Life Skills.
Soccer Day 2010

On 8 June, the whole school played soccer and learned the Disky Dance. Each grade had two teams, representing 14 of the nations playing in the upcoming world cup. All the girls dressed up in the colours of their team for the day.
Grade 7 Outreach Tour

The Grade 7 girls recently visited our twin school, Oakhurst EK, on the farm called Oakhurst in Hoekwil near the Wilderness. We had collected warm clothing and shoes for the children as the cold winter months approach.
