2010 Newsletters
Newsletter 14
We have decided to join the Rotary Club’s EARLYACT programme for primary school children. We are very excited about the project. We hope that this will pave the way for many of our girls to continue with this project through the INTERACT groups that are run at our local high schools.
Newsletter 13
‘Giving our Girls the Edge’ was the theme of the conference that Ms Eland and I attended last week. There was an overwhelming plea from all speakers to encourage our girls to think critically, to engage with topics by encouraging discussions at school and at home and not to become A-grade students who enter university with a head full of knowledge and no idea of how to use it.
Newsletter 12
During the last week of the holiday the Minister of Education made an announcement that Outcomes Based Education will be phased out.
Newsletter 11
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Mrs Womack (Gr7) has decided to take a break from teaching as of the end of this year. She has been at Oakhurst for the past 20 years and she will be sorely missed.
Newsletter 10
Oakhurst was a buzz of excitement and activity on Football Friday as we tried to generate a bit of excitement for the World Cup. There were vuvuzelas and makarobas aplenty. We look forward to our Oakhurst Soccer Day.
Newsletter 9
Last week I received very exciting news. Oakhurst will be getting four inter-active whiteboards as a donation from the Khanya Project.
Newsletter 8
We now have all the holidays out of the way for a while and we can slot into our second term academic and extra – mural programme with earnest.
Last week our Grade 7s went on an unforgettable tour of the Garden Route and the Grade 5s went on an overnight stay to Camp Faraway.
Newsletter 7
We ended the first term with a successful Sunset Concert at Oakhurst. Thank you for supporting this event. We were able to raise R5000 towards our building fund. Special thanks must go to Ms Lesch for arranging the concert for us.
Newsletter 6
It was very encouraging to have such wonderful parental support at our annual sports day. Thank you for being such good sports and for joining your daughters in the fun family races.
Newsletter 5
Thank you very much for your fantastic support on the day of the Big Splash.
Newsletter 4
Thank you to those parents who took the time off to spend the morning at the gala. Despite the weather, the girls had great fun.
Newsletter 3
Our aim this year is to extend our ‘caring’ through the girls and into the community.
Newsletter 2
We are well into the new school year and, despite what has happened at many other schools across the country, we were ready to start with the academics on day one. My thanks must go to the staff who spent time at school during the holidays to ensure that we had a smooth start.
Newsletter 1
Welcome back to a new school year. I hope that you were all able to spend some time relaxing and recharging your batteries. 2010 promises to be an exciting but busy year for us all. A special welcome to the families who are joining Oakhurst for the first time.
