Art

Art at Oakhurst is more than just Art for Art’s sake; here we believe that Art should be fun and a means for our girls to develop creative problem-solving skills and confidence through creative expression. Our Art room is a nurturing space where we teach that there are no mistakes, only possibilities.

Art is always evolving and so should the learning process. We encourage collaboration and feedback within the art classes where learners are not afraid to offer their thoughts and ideas.

From Grade 1 throughout to Grade 7 the girls are encouraged to work with a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums. This allows them to express their thoughts in a unique, visual, and creative way whilst informally learning about the theory and history of Art as supportive context to the practical execution of each art project.

In Grade 1 they are introduced to colour theory, shapes and textures and they learn simple drawing techniques which are further developed throughout their time at the school. Each grade builds on the skills learnt in the previous grade, allowing them to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills as they progress through our school.
